Shedding Snow

Our huge snow pack was beginning to rapidly thaw this week. Most of the driveway, except the top was clear ---but then came a spring storm. Eight more inches…speaking of which we are inching our way to the all-time record of number of inches of snow since records have been kept. Perversely we are still all hoping to break the record, even though we don’t want more snow. Friday the wetlands and forest were draped in a moist, fluffy snow. Saturday snow plummeted from branches in the chilly wind plopping on as we walked on snow shoes around the brook with friends. Today the branches shed the rest of their moisture and the sun soften the snow further making stepped without snow shoes a little treacherous.

Is Spring there Somewhere?

We broke the 100 year record this Friday with a few more inches of snow. Several more to go before we break the record completly! seems likely we will get there. The driveway is a'mush towards the bottom and on Friday I got stuck there when I came home. We put logs and sand down to fill the holes near the bottom of the drive. So much snow and ice left to melt!
However, by the sides of our house you can now see dirt and green! snow fleas are traversing the snow wherever you look.

More Storms

The snow falls again...every few days. This week we had two storms. We are running out of spots to put the snow we remove from the driveway. Everyone is having the same problem. The big topic of conservation is the snow...how much do you have on your roof? can you find your mailbox? how much extra time does it take you to get to work in the morning? how much have you spent on sand, ice? plowing?

We are nearing a record number of inches for seasonal snowfall. Though snow is welcome in New Hampshire - now everyone is saying it's too much. Everyone has cabin fever.
