Life in the Pond

The days are getting darker earlier...the once bouncy fauna and flora around the wetlands are now in a state of fragility, sagging, flowers gone to fluff. One touch and the seeds drift off. It takes a great deal of faith to believe that all this death is necessary for new life in the spring, but every year all things believe it will happen again. Life will return to the pond.
Here and there, purple asters and golden rod are still blooming. Against the yellow of a sprig of golden rod I saw a lethargic wasp, clinging on.
Maybe this is a metaphor for the recent elections...in which Obama won decisively...we are hoping new life will emerge from the mess.
