Last Day of Winter 2011

Wow! the winter has sped by and it's now the last day! I haven't posted since the end of January. We are still thawing out, but large patched of grass are now visible and we can see what winter has left. The beaver dam is cascading with water. I hope as the weather warms the beaver will get to work and make repairs as I see holes here and there. If it breaks it could be bad news for the crossing. However, I have more faith in this dam than if it were humanmade.
I walked about the property today and sunk up to my thighs in the forest by Shedd Brook. The snow on the lawn in front is mushy. In the woods it is still crusty, but as you can see, weak in spots. We look forward to the first day of spring tomorrow.
