Freezing our noses off

After a substantial thaw, temps have plunged again, sending us indoors to watch the outdoors from within the comfort of our homes. Been laid out with a nasty winter cold, but today I have improved a little and I agreed to go out and gather the kindling from the White Pine that the builders knocked down when they created our driveway. Here is the bucket of sticks, soon to turn to ash in the woodstove.

Snow on the Way

Snow on the way this afternoon, after a warming trend the last couple of days. Yesterday I snowshoed up the hill and found many deer tracks and what I think are moose tracks...huge prints in the snow, widely spaced, leading up the hill from the wetlands. Fairly recent as I was just up there last weekend.

Lindley has a cold and has been staying inside a lot the last couple of days.

We have also be glued to CNN...watching the devastating scense of death and destruction after a 7.0 earthquake near Port-Au-Prince, Haiti on Tuesday.

Made me wonder, if we had an earthquake here if those big boulders out back would come flying down the hill and strike the house or how long it would take to dislodge some of our trees. Some have been weakened by previous storms and are way bent over or broken in half and hanging by a thread.

We feel great sorrow for the people of Haiti.

New Days

2010. New days. Less snow thus far than last winter. It is chilly, but the news tells us that NH is less chilly than the rest of the country which is experiencing a record winder chill, as are other countries such as the UK and China. This will add fuel to the flame of climate change deniers, alas!
But today it's a pretty day, and though I haven't ventured out, yet, I will later in the day and enjoy the increasing strength of days as they begin to lengthen.
